You will start with 2.5"x WOF" strips in 10-20 fabrics (a good way to use left over fabric) plus a background tonal or solid fabric, and Elaine will show you fun ways to combine strips into strata that can be used to bring new excitement to your favorite traditional settings. Elaine is leading 3 sessions and you can come to one or all three. Note that the class fee is per session.

Level: adventurous beginner to intermediate. There are examples of Elaine’s work using this method in the classroom at the shop. Check it out.!

Improvisational Curved Piecing

$31

Teacher – Elaine Poplin

(B+) If you've always wondered how in the world quilters put together improvisational work but have been afraid to try it yourself, this class will be a safe place for you to experiment. Using small scraps of fabric and one "zinger" fabric to provide seasoning, we will explore cutting fabrics without using acrylic rulers, and piecing totally original works of quilt art. No matter what your quilting skill level and comfort level with improvisational work, this class will stretch and stimulate you to try new things in your artistic journey. The instructor will show you how to correct small errors, how to combat puckers and ruffles in your piecing, and how to embrace the unexpected. There will also be a tool demonstration using standard school glue to help hold pieces in place so that curves stay smooth and design elements don't slip when pins are removed. You don't want to miss this class!
